Think about this simple phrase from the creator of Mickey Mouse. This guy built an entertainment empire on a cartoon character. His values shine through in all his movies, and those made after his death. Honesty wins, evil goes down to defeat, and people live happily ever after. You may think those are just fairy tale endings, but not really.
What are the values showing in the films? Anything ring a bell? How about the Twelve Points of the Scout Law? These are good basic values on which to base your life. When you say the words, don’t just recite them, internalize them so that they become a part of you. This gives you a strength of character you would otherwise lack.
Once you have made these values a part of you, you can face difficult decisions easily. If someone offers you drugs or alcohol, you can easily say no. It doesn’t matter if “everyone” is doing it, YOU are not everyone. You can make the right decision for YOU, regardless of what others may be doing. And it’s so simple. If you break something, own up to it immediately. Lying about it won’t help resolve the situation. I know that if your parents are like me, they appreciate a direct answer, and there is no punishment involved. When your values are strong, your whole life is easier. Think about it.
“When your values are clear, your decision making is easy.” Roy “Walt” Disney
